Amalis did her MSc. at UVic in killer whale acoustics and joined the Juanes lab in 2015 to study fish sounds at the Bowie Seamount Marine Protected Area. Her research has focused on describing new fish sounds to contribute to a global inventory of soniferous fish species. She has confirmed sound production for sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria), Arctic cod (Boreogadus saida), and walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus). Her current projects include the FishSounds website (https://fishsounds.net/) and NPRB-funded “Passive Acoustic Monitoring of Arctic cod: seasonality and demography of their sound production”.
