Amanda B. Edgell

Amanda B. Edgell is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Alabama and a research fellow at the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute. They hold a PhD from the University of Florida, MA from Texas A&M University, and BS from Appalachian State University. Their research focuses on authoritarianism, representation, and elections. They have conducted fieldwork in DR Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Uganda. They are co-editor of the book Why Democracies Develop and Decline (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and their research has also appeared in the African Studies Review, the British Journal of Political Science, Democratization, the European Journal of Political Research, Political Science Research & Methods, and Social Science & Medicine.
