PhD Researcher, University of Essex

I am currently a researcher at the University of Essex (Colchester, UK). My work investigates the way cumulative experienced stress impacts on the human ageing process. While a substantial body of in vitro cell work demonstrates that chronic as well as cumulative stress exerts a negative influence on certain regions of the brain, little work has been undertaken into how this affects elderly individuals' cognitive performance. I therefore combine behavioural measures with EEG recordings of the brain's underlying oscillatory activity to investigate how cumulative life-stress affects performance and the underlying mechanisms facilitating it in old age.
