Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Institute for Analytics and Data Science) Department of Language and Linguistics, University of Essex

I am a lecturer in sociolinguistics at the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Analytics and Data Science. I explore language variation and change as well as language attitudes and accentism in relation to class-based prejudice. In particular, I research how people speak in London and Essex, and how these accents are evaluated and judged. I also focus on how the Cockney diaspora (dispersion of Cockneys into the home counties throughout the 20th century) has affected how we speak and understand language in South East England.
