Amrita Hari

Amrita is an Assosciate Professor in the Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies at Carleton University. She has a BA Hons and MA in geography from the University of Toronto, and a DPhil in geography from the University of Oxford. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at York University jointly funded by CERIS (the Ontario Metropolis Centre), the Centre for Refugee Studies, and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.

Amrita is interested in broader questions around global migrations, transnationalism, diaspora, and citizenship. Her previous work examined migrants’ reconfigurations of gender roles in productive and reproductive labour in a post-migratory context. Her current research interests lie in examining how gender, race, and class are reproduced through migration policies in a neoliberal global world. She also investigates the intersectional identities of and acts of resistance by (im)migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and non-citizens.

She has published a number of articles on these topics in peer-reviewed internationally recognized journals, including Signs, Gender, Work & Organization, International Migration, Refuge, and the Journal of South Asian Diaspora.
