Assistant Professor of Nursing, University of Tennessee

Dr. Alspaugh is a Nurse Scientist, Certified Nurse-Midwife, and Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing. She earned a PhD in Nursing Science from the Medical University of South Carolina and an MSN in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. Additionally, she received a BA in History from Haverford College. She was a postdoctoral scholar with the ACTIONS Program at the School of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Alspaugh engaged in reproductive health research that focuses on the needs and desires of marginalized or understudied groups, including people 35 and older. Additionally, Dr. Alspaugh is involved in research focused on the midwifery workforce, nursing and abortion care, advancing conversations about universal health care, and qualitative research.
