Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Augusta University

Amy Baxter MD has been a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Emergency Physicians. After graduating from Yale University and Emory School of Medicine, she trained in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's and completed fellowships in Child Maltreatment and Emergency Pediatrics. After completing a Clinical Research Certificate at University of Texas Southwestern, she founded and ran the Pediatric Emergency Research division at Scottish Rite, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and was a founding member of the Society for Pediatric Sedation. She received NIH SBIR Fast Track funds to develop external neuromodulatory over the counter pain relief devices Buzzy, VibraCool, and is currently funded by NIDA. Contributions to science include an algorithm to time liver injury in Child Abuse, creating and validating the BARF pediatric nausea scale (now validated in Spanish), the identification of a cause and consequence of needle phobia, and multiple textbook chapters and first author publications on procedural pain and sedation. Dr. Baxter is currently evaluating different vibrational frequencies and amplitudes and their impact when combined with thermal heat or cold on pain reduction and recovery with the goal of opioid reduction.
