I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for African Studies, University of Vienna (Austria). My first book, Power and the Presidency in Kenya: The Jomo Kenyatta Years (1958-1878) (Cambridge University Press, 2020), analyzes the making of Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta as well as the roots of presidential powers in postcolonial Kenya. A passionate historian, I am currently working on the incredible lives of the first Kenyan women who campaigned for a parliamentary seat in the 1960s-1970s, a time that when politics remained an essentially male field.
