Andrea Harrington

ARC DECRA Research Fellow, University of Adelaide

I am a laboratory based research scientist in the field of neurogastroenterology. I research how the nervous system controls the function of our gastrointestinal system - from where the food goes in to where it exits. My current research focuses on the nerves and pathways that control how we detect and feel pain from different regions of the gastrointestinal tract. It is key to understand these pathways in order to develop tools to manage acute and chronic pain radiating from the gastrointestinal tract associated with pathologies such as irritable bowel syndrome and gastri reflux disease.
