Andrew Crump

(He/him)
Lecturer in Animal Cognition and Welfare, Royal Veterinary College

Dr. Andrew Crump is a biologist confused about animal consciousness. Which animals are conscious? Why did consciousness evolve? What does consciousness mean for animal welfare? In the lab, he uses bees as a test-case to identify cognitive indicators of consciousness. He and his colleagues have also advised the UK government, resulting in an amendment to the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Act 2022 that legally protected some invertebrates for the first time.
