Dr Andrew Okem holds a doctorate in Policy and Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu Natal. He currently works as a Science Officer in the Durban office of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group II Technical Support Unit. Before his current post, he worked as a senior researcher with the Maurice Webb Race Relations Institute where he led several impact assessments studies and training of public officials in monitoring and evaluation. Between 2015 and 2017, he worked as a senior researcher under the South African Research Chair Initiative in Applied Poverty Reduction Assessment. Under the Chair, he led a study on the poverty reduction co-benefits of climate change projects in eThekwini Municipality.
