Lecturer in Psychology, University of Liverpool

Dr Andrew Jessop is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Liverpool. He was born and educated in Liverpool, where he now works as part of the Liverpool Language Lab studying the cognitive mechanisms that allow to children develop their first language. The focus of Dr Jessop's research is on exploring the automatic learning mechanisms that help children build a vocabulary by listening to their parent's speech. His research involves building computer models of learning and conducting lab experiments with young children and adults. Dr Jessop has previously worked at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in The Netherlands, and is a member of the ESRC International Centre for Language and Communicative Development.
