Angela Arthington is a graduate of Canterbury University, New Zealand (B Sc Honours), and of McGill University, Canada (Ph D). She founded the Centre for Catchment and In-Stream Research (CCISR), Griffith University, in 1987, and has built up a team of ecologists working on the ecology and management of lakes, wetlands and rivers.
Angela has worked extensively on the ecology of dune lakes and on the biology, ecology and conservation of native and introduced freshwater fish in these unusual wetland systems. She is also keenly interested in river management, especially the allocation and monitoring of environmental flows, and has pioneered an ecosystem approach to water allocation for the environment.
These research programs are supported by the Co-operative Research Centres for Freshwater Ecology; Rainforest Ecology and Management; and Sustainable Tourism. Angela is an experienced consultant and speaker on aquatic ecosystem management and conservation.
