Anna Askerud is a PhD candidate at the University of Otago department of general practice and rural health. Having worked for many years as both a primary healthcare nurse and as an emergency nurse Anna has a strong interest in research around the integration of care for people with long term conditions and the management of chronic care within the New Zealand healthcare system. Anna’s main research interest focuses on the nursing role and the patient experience, and seeks to investigate pathways of care in order to enhance the long term outcomes of patients with complex long term conditions and improve their quality of care. Anna’s masters dissertation (2013) examined a nurse case management model of care for people with complex long term conditions which she helped develop in a primary healthcare organisation from 2009 - 2013. Her current doctoral research seeks to examine the most effective aspects of care planning in long term conditions care. Anna lives in Dunedin with her family and works as a senior lecturer at the Otago Polytechnic school of nursing where she recently gained an excellence in teaching award.
