Prior to joining Clark in 2010, I was a Professor at what is now the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester. I have also held academic positions at the University of Colorado-Boulder and Cambridge University. I have held positions at the World Bank and two NGO think tanks: the International Institute of Environment and Development and the Overseas Development Institute. I am an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Director of Oxfam America, and a Distinguished Professor at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), Ecuador. I have been a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, an Australia Laureate Fellow and a Professorial Fellow of the Economic and Social Research Council, UK.
My BA is in Land Economy and Geography from Cambridge University (1985).
