Aurore Avarguès-Weber

I am a cognitive ethologist at the CRCA. I am working mainly on visual cognition and social learning in bees with growing interest for the neurobiological mechanisms.

I did my PhD on the visual cognitive abilities of honey bees with Martin Giurfa (CRCA – Toulouse) then I spent a couple of years in London in Lars Chittka’s team (Queen Mary College) to look at the potential mechanisms explaining social transfer of information in bumble bees. My second postdoc (Gif-sur-Yvette (France) – Jean-Christophe Sandoz’s team) focused on developing a setup (locomotion compensator) to successfully train harnessed bees in visual learning tasks in the lab for future in situ neurobiological analysis. I am now back at the CRCA at a CNRS (CR2) researcher in the EXPerience-dependent PLAsticity in INsects (EXPLAIN) team.
