Barbara Brownie

Dr Barbara Brownie leads online postgraduate study for MA Graphic Design and MA Illustration, and is director of the professional doctorate programmes DFA (Doctor of Fine Art) and DDes (Doctor of Design), at the University of Hertfordshire. Barbara has a PhD in The Behaviours of Fluid Characterforms in Temporal Typography. She has two main research interests: typography and costume.

Barbara is currently working on several projects: Spacewear, an exploration into how weightlessness affects the fit and drape of garments; Backstage, a collaboration with photographer Ambra Vernuccio; The Material Culture of Resistance and Revolution, a collaboration between the University of Hertfordshire and the National Army Museum that will consider the artefacts produced by opposition and resistance groups.
