Born in Germany, Dr Beate Peter attended university in Berlin, and since 2001 has worked in academia in the UK. Her experience of clubbing in Berlin and in the UK led to her PhD on club culture and the unconscious. Her current research investigates the impact of dance, popular music and related cultures on people's lives. She has published research on techno in Berlin.

Beate's recent project on the "Lapsed Clubber" looks at the impact that clubbing and dancing in Manchester between 1985 and 1995 has had on individual people, particularly on their notion of identity.
