My research is in conversation analysis and interactional linguistics. I explore spoken language, particularly the phonetics and phonology of natural conversation, cross-cultural comparisons and institutional interaction.
I have worked on prosodic alignment between speakers in naturally-occurring talk; on word linking in typologically different languages; on speech rhythm in different varieties of English; and on instructional interaction in music masterclasses.Currently, I am working on language and citizenship issues for minority speakers in the UK and on a comparison of interactional mirroring across languages.
