Binita Kane

Dr Binita Kane is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT) and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester School of Biomedical Sciences. She has a PhD in airways disease (2008) and completed a Masters in Healthcare Leadership in 2015. Her special interests include; airways disease, integrated person-centred care, health technology, quality improvement and leadership.

In March 2020, she set up the first step-down virtual COVID ward in the UK and has chaired the Manchester Citywide Virtual Ward steering group throughout the pandemic. She has been involved in the roll-out of the virtual ward model across England, advising both at Greater Manchester and National Level. She has recently been appointed as the Senior Responsible Officer for development of the Virtual Hospital at MFT which will significantly widen the scope of virtual care in Manchester.

In January 2021, Dr Kane’s daughter developed COVID and subsequently Long COVID. This has led her on an international search for answers, culminating in her becoming a campaigner, researcher, patient advocate and champion for the Long COVID Kids charity. She now sees and treats adults with Long COVID in the NHS.
