Associate Lecturer in Physics, Macquarie University

Dr Sturmberg is bringing the solar revolution to Australia's rental properties with his social enterprise SunTenants, for which he was awarded a 2017 Myer Innovation Fellowship. He is also an Associate Lecturer at Macquarie University and a Co-founder and Director of Kairos Power, a boutique engineering and research consultancy specialising in sustainable energy systems, whose projects include multi-million dollar hybrid microgrids and embedded networks.

In 2011 he was awarded an ARENA scholarship for his PhD research that studied how nanostructures can improve the efficiency of solar cells. During his PhD he was also the lead developer of a novel software package for theoretical physics simulation, which he released open source in 2014. In 2016 he co-initiated and managed the first installation of a Solar + Storage system in an Australian apartment block, a project that won an Environmental Performance - Innovation Grant from the City of Sydney.
