Brett Goodin researches the United States in the world in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His first book, From Captives to Consuls (2020), is a collective biography of American sailors held captive in the Barbary States. He is currently writing a book about Americans in the Asia-Pacific between 1784 and 1914.
