Callum McCloskey

Callum McCloskey is a PhD researcher with the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), based at the Paisley campus. His main research interests of sport, mega events and human rights are reflected in his work with the UWS Centre for Culture, Sport and Events, and the modules he has taught on, in terms of Global Issues in Sport and Global Trends in Events (at UWS), and the Politics of Sport at Ulster University, Belfast.

Prior to commencing his doctoral study at the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the West of Scotland, he completed a BSc in Sport Studies at Ulster University, Jordanstown, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research at Queen’s University, Belfast; both in his native Northern Ireland. During his undergraduate degree, he also spent a year in Madrid completing a Diploma in Professional Practice (International). His PhD study at UWS focuses on the United 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, exploring to what extent human rights promises made as part of the successful bid have been enshrined in planning and delivery processes, and with what implications for the host nation(s) and awarding body (FIFA).
