Calvin Schermerhorn is a historian of slavery, capitalism, and African American inequality, Professor of History at Arizona State University, and will be a Fulbright Scholar to the U.K. in 2022. His books include "Unrequited Toil: A History of United States Slavery" (Cambridge, 2018); "The Business of Slavery and the Rise of American Capitalism, 1815-1860" (Yale, 2015), and "Money over Mastery, Family over Freedom: Slavery in the Antebellum Upper South" (Johns Hopkins, 2011). He teaches online and in-person courses on American and global history at ASU, advising honors, masters, and doctoral students.
