Professor and Chair, Human Development and Family Studies, Iowa State University

Dr. Weems received his education From Florida State University (Bachelors in Psychology), Florida International University (PhD in Lifespan Developmental Psychology), and Stanford University (Post Doc). Currently he is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University. Previously he was a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Orleans (UNO), where he served as the Associate Chair. He has held research/faculty appointments in the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center (Clinical Professor) and in the Life Course and Aging Center at LSU (Adjunct Faculty), Baton Rouge. He has been teaching for over 20 years at the university level and taught advanced graduate statistics for Psychology PhD students at UNO for 10 years. He is a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and Editor in Chief of the Child & Youth Care Forum, a peer reviewed international journal publishing scientific advances in child development and youth mental health. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Science foundation, National Institute of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency, State Agencies, Private Foundations, and Industry. His scholarly works include over 150 peer reviewed journal articles, a book the Neuroscience of Pediatric PTSD, numerous book chapters, and peer reviewed conference abstracts. His scholarship has been cited over 16,000 times (google scholar; h index of 70) by other researchers.
