Dr Carlos Uxo graduated from Universidad Complutense (Madrid, Spain). He taught Spanish first in Wellington, New Zealand, and then at La Trobe University where he completed a Master by Research on Spanish literature. In 1997 he joined the Spanish Department at Dublin City University, where he worked until coming back to La Trobe in 2002. Here, he completed his PhD on the representation of Afro-Cuban characters in Cuban literature. He is also interested in the socioeconomic conditions of Cuba after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Cuban crime fiction, on which he recently published the monograph El género policial en Cuba (Peter Lang, 2021)
