Professor in Education, University of Auckland

I trained as a primary teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand. I taught in New Zealand, Canada and the UK. In 1989, I became a teacher educator in Christchurch. I later had three years in education policy in Wellington before coming to the University of Auckland where I am currently a professor in the School of Critical Studies in Education. My research focuses on the role of schools and communities in disaster response and recovery. I am also the Education Commissioner for UNESCO New Zealand.
