Associate Professor of Law, University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau

Associate Professor Carrie Leonetti joined the academic staff in 2018 from the University of Oregon School of Law, where she was the Faculty Director of the Criminal Justice Initiative and an Affiliated Member of the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy. She has also worked as a Visiting Professor at Faculty of Jurisprudence at the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology, and Security Studies at the University of Sarajevo, where she was a Fulbright Scholar.

Professor Leonetti’s research agenda focuses primarily on comparative criminal procedure and miscarriages of justice in an international context. She is particularly interested in the role that culture and social psychology play in the definition, detection, and remedy of wrongful convictions. She also writes regularly in the area of high-tech surveillance and data privacy.

Professor Leonetti teaches undergraduate classes in criminal law, evidence, and forensic psychiatry and a post-graduate seminar about miscarriages of justice.
