Chantal Sullivan-Thomsett

PhD Candidate in German and Politics, University of Leeds

I am currently in the second year of an interdisciplinary PhD at the University of Leeds and am based between the subject areas of German and Politics and International Relations (POLIS). I am supervised by a member of staff from each (Prof. Ingo Cornils from German and Dr. Jonathan Dean from POLIS). I commenced my PhD in October 2017 and aim to complete in October 2020.

Fluent in German, my doctoral research is an ethnographic study of Green Party members in Berlin, Kiel and Stuttgart looking at how party members experience and engage with the party and the role or connection of protest and social movements from this perspective. My broader research interests include post-war German politics, German political culture and German protest and social movements of past and present.
