I am a mixed methods researcher, and my research is focused on children within schools. I am particularly passionate about improving children’s emotional adjustment during primary-secondary school transitions, which I have been investigating for seven years. For my BSc (which I studied at Keele University) I explored the significance of social support as a protective factor over primary-secondary school transition. For my MSc (also studied at Keele University) I examined the significance of emotional-centred support intervention timing during this time. My PhD (which I studied at both Keele and Manchester Metropolitan University) was the first study to design and evaluate a universal emotional-centred intervention to improve children’s emotional well-being over primary-secondary school transition. The intervention is called Talking about School Transition (TaST) and was informed by a thorough literature review in addition to three preliminary research studies, which were conducted in both the UK and USA, in mainstream and special schools, obtaining insight from all stakeholders (teachers, pupils and parents), using observations, focus groups, interviews, surveys and document analysis.
Aside from academia, I also work as an Applied Behaviour Analyst Tutor. I am also on the BPS Developmental Section Committee, the BPS ECR committee and TCELT-INTR committee.
