My primary research interests include the history of higher education, faculty and organizations within higher education, public policy and politics as they relate to higher education, institutional missions, academic freedom, international higher education (especially in Latin America), college athletics, and higher education in popular culture (especially fiction and film). I am currently working on projects related to the history of the effect of the 1918 pandemic on higher education and the history of college football. I was co-chair of a committee that installed a statue celebrating Richard T. Greener, the first African American professor at the University of South Carolina (unveiled in February 2018).
