Christopher Findlay

Christopher Findlay is Honorary Professor of Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy, the College of Asia and the Pacific, The Australian National University.

Between 2011 and 2018 Professor Findlay was Executive Dean of the Faculty of the Professions at the University of Adelaide. Prior to that he was Head of the Adelaide University School of Economics (since November 2005) and before then Professor of Economics in the Asia Pacific School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University.

He has a PhD and MEc from the ANU and an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide.

Australia's economic relations with Asia are the theme of Professor Findlay's research. A special interest is the reform and industrialisation of the Chinese economy. Professor Findlay has been especially involved in research on the textiles, steel and air transport industries in East Asia and on the implications of developments in those industries for Australia.

Professor Findlay was a principal researcher in a major research program on impediments to services trade and investment. In the first three years of the program, innovative methods were established to assess and measure the impact of the impediments. The methodology provided estimates of tariff equivalents of barriers to forms of services sector transactions and led to the incorporation of those estimates into general equilibrium models. A book on this work was published in 2000. The second three years of this program, funded like the first by the ARC, focussed on the impact of domestic regulation on services trade and investment and has led to two new collections of papers published in 2002 and 2003.
