Christopher Salinas

Senior Lecturer and Director of Public Discourse, Southern Methodist University

Christopher Salinas is a Lecturer and Director of Public Discourse in the Division of Communication Studies at Southern Methodist University. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Baylor University and a Doctorate in Communication Studies with a focus on rhetoric and argumentation from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Salinas was Assistant Director of Debate at SMU from 2008 to 2013, during which he coached Academic All-Americans, the 2013 National Junior Division Debate Tournament Novice Champions and Top Speaker. In his new role as Director of Public Discourse, he directs the public speaking programs for the Division of Communication Studies. Salinas also consults law firms in the areas of public speaking, confidence strategies and gender relations.

Salinas lives in Dallas with his wife of 13 years, Wendy, and his daughter Scarlett. On his own time he enjoys watching sports, consuming popular culture and reading a variety of subjects. Salinas is an avid collector of art. He has amassed one of the largest privately held collections of urban and street art in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
