Christopher Wenn

Tutor in Production (Technical), The University of Melbourne

Dr. Chris Wenn is an award-winning sound designer for theatre and live performance, and Tutor in Production (Technical) in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at The University of Melbourne, Southbank. His sound design has featured in works by Malthouse, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, Sarah Austin & Collaborators, rollercoaster, and internationally at Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay, Singapore. Interdisciplinary and experimental collaborations include performances, animations, and recorded works with noted spoken word/visual artists Kylie Supski and ReVerse Butcher. He performs live with foundational Melbourne noise-punk band Primitive Calculators.

Chris's research interests are in the phenomenology of sound design for theatre and performance, particularly in the relationship between designer and audience, as viewed through the lens of professional practice. He completed his PhD at Monash University in 2017. His research has been published in the journals Australasian Drama Studies and Theatre and Performance Design.
