Claire J. Horwell

Professor of Geohealth, Durham University

Claire Horwell is a Professor of Geohealth at Durham University, UK. She works on community protection from various air pollution exposures and is founder and Director of the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network (www.ivhhn.org). Claire is an Honorary Professor at Public Health England and is currently President of the American Geophysical Union's GeoHealth Section.

Claire sits on the UK government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) for volcanic crises and advises governments around the world on the public health and preparedness aspects of volcanic erutpions. She has worked on the efficacy and ethics of facemask use for the past five years.
