Colin McCarter

(he/him)
Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts and Science, Nipissing University

Colin McCarter is a Canada Research Chair in Climate and Environmental Change at Nipissing University. His research focuses how the interactions and feedbacks between ecohydrological, biogeochemical, and soil physical processes control the movement of water, nutrients, carbon, and contaminants under increasing land-use and climate change pressures. Colin's primary research focus is to determine how the structure of organic soils, like peat, govern water and contaminant flow from soils to catchments. He applies his research to develop novel restoration techniques to accelerate peatland restoration and design new restoration methods to restore heavily contaminated peatlands. Currently, Colin leads a group of researchers in restoring metal contaminated wetlands in industrially-contaminated landscapes such as Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
