Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Business, University of Victoria

Cynthia Waltho is a post-doctoral research fellow at Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. She began working with Dr. Adel Guitouni in October 2020. Her primary research focuses on the smart management of agri-food supply chains. This research utilizes agent-based modelling to gain insight into how value is created, negotiated, and appreciated along the three vectors of sustainability (economic, environmental, and social). Cynthia is particularly interested in drawing attention to the fact that environmental and social sustainability are the foundation for success of businesses in our uncertain future.

Cynthia earned her doctorate at the University of Waterloo (Canada) in Management Sciences. Her thesis entitled “Green Supply Chain Network Design with Emission Sensitive Demand” focused on designing supply chains while incorporating carbon footprint tracking, allowing consumer demand to be a function of their aversion to a product’s environmental impact.

Prior to joining the Gustavson School of Business, Cynthia taught Supply Chain Management at the University of Waterloo.
