Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Psychiatry, Monash University

David Copolov, OAM, is the Pro Vice Chancellor in the Office of the Vice Chancellor at Monash University. He is also a Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Professor of Physiology at Monash and Professorial Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. He is also a Director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and the Bio21 Cluster and a Fellow of both Queen’s College and St Hilda’s College at the University of Melbourne.

His area of expertise has been research into and the treatment of schizophrenia and related disorders. He was the Executive Director of the Mental Health Research Institute (MHRI) of Victoria from 1985 to 2004. He has published more than 230 peer reviewed articles and has been an investigator on many national competitive grants.

He has held several advisory appointments to the Australian Federal and State Governments including twelve years as a member of the Victorian Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mental Health and eight years as the psychiatric expert on the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee.
