Emeritus Professor, Victoria University

In his role as Emeritus Professor at CIRES, David McCallum:

-assists development of collaborations between CIRES and Moondani Balluk Academic Unit in the University, and the Community Identity and Displacement Research Network (external link) in the College of Arts & Education
-publishes scholarly works and supervises post-graduate research
-provides strategic advice to assist the Director of CIRES in planning and decision-making.

Professor McCallum was previously Head of the Humanities and Social Sciences Discipline Group in the College of Arts & Education at Victoria University (2014-2017)

Professor McCallum is author or co-author of four books and over 40 articles in research fields of history of human sciences and sociology of law, and is a member of the Sociological Association of Australia and the International Sociological Association.

His latest book, Criminalising Children. Welfare and the State in Australia, is published by Cambridge University Press, 2017. It is available for purchase at Book Depository and appears in Australian bookshops in 2018.
