Senior Lecturer in Sports Journalism, Liverpool John Moores University

David is an NCTJ qualified journalist who has spent much of his industry career in sports journalism.

He has worked as a staff writer for Liverpool Football Club and a multimedia sports reporter for the Liverpool Echo, with freelance work including Boxing News and Sky Sports magazine.

David has covered many major sports events including UEFA Champions League finals, the Grand National, FA Cup and League Cup finals plus domestic, European and world title boxing contests.

Since trading the newsroom for the classroom, David has taught journalism and sports journalism at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of Salford where he was BA Journalism programme leader, and the University of Chester as BA Sports Journalism programme leader before returning to his home city to join LJMU Journalism in 2019.

David has a first class BA Hons in Cultural and Media Studies from Staffordshire University and a Masters in Journalism from Liverpool John Moores University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is currently working towards a PhD with an overarching theme of digital storytelling in a sports context.
