David Werner

Dr David Werner (DW) is a Professor of Environmental Systems Modelling at Newcastle University. DW holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences from the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich (ETHZ).

After obtaining his PhD, DW worked for two years as postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University before joining Newcastle University as a Lecturer in 2004. DW’s current research focuses on three main topics: 1) Field methods for water quality surveying and the communication of waterborne hazards, including the development of a suitcase laboratory for molecular water microbiology; 1) The innovative use of sorbents for water treatment and the in-situ restoration of contaminated soils and sediments; 3) The development of digital tools to minimize water wastage in the built environment.
