Deborah's interests lie particularly in the fields of women, feminism and popular culture, often with a focus on older and ageing femininities; women filmmakers; and popular genre cinema. Currently, she is working on the movement she has termed ‘the menopausal turn’ in contemporary UK culture - the surge in attention to menopause seen in recent years across politics, medicine, retail, education, the media and more - with an open access article on this topic forthcoming in the Journal of Aging Studies early 2023.
She is author and editor of 11 books including Crime Watching: Investigating Real Crime TV (IB Tauris, 2006); Prime Suspect (BFI Macmillan, 2010); Female Celebrity and Ageing: Back in the Spotlight (Routledge, 2013) and most recently, Love Across the Atlantic (EUP, 2020).
