Emeritus Professor of Biotechnology, University of South Wales

Denis Murphy's research expertise is in plant biotechnology, genomics, molecular & cell biology, and bioinformatics. He has completed over 300 publications in internationally peer reviewed journals.

Murphy is a supervisor of 25 successful PhD students and over 18 postdocs/technicians and has raised over £6 million in competitive grant funding. He is a university academic and teacher with sixteen years teaching experience at the University of Durham (1985-1990), University of East Anglia, & University of Glamorgan UK.

He also reviews international grant proposals and research publications. As a senior advisor and consultant on biotechnology to government bodies and private companies, Murphy has served as an expert witness at the House of Lords Select Committee, for the Malaysian Government and for DEFRA in the UK.

He is the author of numerous academic and popular articles and books on biotechnology, agriculture and their social impacts. He has wrote for the UK and overseas press, radio and television.
