Senior Lecturer (retired), Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge

For 50 years I have studied tropical forest tree growth and how it is affected by nutrient supply, and tree dynamics and how they are affected by hurricanes.

My main project is a study of the effects of litter removal and litter addition on: tree growth, soil and tree nutrient concentrations, and soil carbon dynamics in semi-deciduous forest at Barro Colorado Nature Monument in Panama. Our second project is a long-term study of forest dynamics following a major Hurricane in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica.
