Emily's research interests are: marine biogeochemistry, ocean acidification and coral reefs. She has previous experience in a range of marine biogeochemical projects, on carbonate chemistry, phytoplankton dynamics, and carbon and nutrient cycling.
She is currently working on a project on coral reef community metabolism at reefs in the southern Great Barrier Reef. This project will examine both the influence of ocean acidification, which occurs from increasing anthropogenic CO2 emissions, on community metabolism as well as the feedbacks of metabolic processes on the seawater chemistry.
