My current research considers 'place-based' perspectives of economic growth, as well as industrial strategy and innovation policy. Using theoretical perspectives from evolutionary economic geography I am interested in how prior or existing regional assets, capabilities, resources and institutions can constrain or enable place based growth. Additionally I am interested how these co-evolve in regional economic ecosystems to bring about changes lead to new innovation and market opportunities. I also consider anchor institutions such as universities, anchor firms, and local government bodies with respect to the development of innovative capabilities.
