Fidelma Fitzpatrick

Prof. Fitzpatrick, BA (Mod), MB BAO BCh, MD, DME, PGDip Med Ed, FRCPI, FRCPath. is the Head of Department and Professor of Clinical Microbiology in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and consultant clinical microbiologist in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a lead role in the hospital and university infection prevention and control response and was a collaborator on three COVID-19-related projects funded by the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI): COVID-19 Rapid Response call in 2020. Previously she worked at a national level from 2010-2014 as the first clinical lead for the prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), She was elected chair of European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Study Group for Clostridioides difficile in 2020 and is the chair of the National Sepsis Committee, Scientific Advisory Committee Health Protection Surveillance Committee.. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, most recently on aspects of the Hospital COVID-19 response and C. difficile infection.
