My research interests lie in investigating how we can support people to improve their health behaviours to prevent and reduce obesity. This is an important and highly topical area given that more than half of the UK’s adult population are now classified as overweight or obese, which has significant consequences not only for these individuals but also for society. My primary research interest is in investigating how we can support people to improve their health behaviours to prevent and reduce obesity. In practice this involves conducting research to explore the most effective strategies for promoting behaviour change, and drawing on this to design theoretically and pragmatically informed interventions. I work both at an individual and population level, and my recent focus has been in exploring the positive and negative effects of policy on people’s motivation to adopt healthier lifestyles. I have worked closely with local public health teams and members of the public to deliver research that is relevant and applicable to practice.
