Also have MBA (Melb) & Grad. Cert. Business (Philanthropy & Nonprofit Studies)(QUT) and 25+ years as a strategist in the private sector. Used all in my PhD where I investigated the potential role nonprofit organisations (NPOs) may have in building community resilience to disasters.

My research illustrated NPOs usefulness before, during and after disasters. They have many of the characteristics the National Strategy for Disaster Resilience lists in defining a resilient community. However the literature holds little evidence of their involvement in the disaster space.
