Research Assistant, Edinburgh Napier University

I am a Lecturer in Sociology within the School of Applied Sciences at Edinburgh Napier University. Prior to this I worked as a Research Assistant in the Employment Research Institute at Edinburgh Napier University.

My research interests are primarily in the sociology of work & employment, the sociology of media & culture and cultural studies. My research focuses on value conflicts over commodification in social and cultural forms of work; social inequalities and how they are perpetuated through work, culture and technology; and the cultural politics of work & (un)employment.

I have a degree in Management, a Masters by Research in Social Research and a PhD, all from Heriot-Watt University. Drawing primarily on qualitative research, my PhD examined the conflict between artistic freedom and the commercial pressures of work within the recorded music industry.

I am currently working on three research projects:
- Work and wellbeing in dental care
- Women's work in the cultural industries
- Social economies of food and energy in Scotland

I have previously worked on projects investigating mental health and welfare reform, collectivism in open source software development and age management.
